When you think life is about to give you lemons, what do you do?
You make limeade of course! About a year or so ago, Dan bought a lemon tree - a tiny little newbie that he put in a pot and we watched it grow. Then we saw a blossom on it, it's very first one and it was so cute! I got very excited to see a lemon starting to grow because I love lemons and use them often and was really looking forward to having fresh ones at my disposal right in my kitchen! As it grew, it stayed green; I thought it was supposed to do that and then turn yellow when it was ready. Well either it never became ready or it was a lime....it was a lime! It must have been mislabeled in the store because it was most definitely a lime. It was still beautiful and fresh and I love the tree anyway. It is now growing more blossoms and I am excited to see how many limes we can get - salsa and limeade here we come!!!! Maybe this year we can get a real lemon tree... Here are our new blossoms! They smell a lot like honeysuckle and are very fragrant! OK, so I just made toothpaste....
I used coconut oil, baking soda, neem oil, peppermint oil and glycerin. I tried it and found it to have an interesting texture. Not sure if Camille will like it - she is not a fan of peppermint toothpaste to begin with and it's a little gritty - so maybe I will need to try another one with a different flavor for her. We'll see how it goes! So here it is, the end of January, and it finally looks like winter in New England! Personally, I hate the snow and am looking forward to the Spring already! We have a cold frame that Dan built which is allowing us to have fresh greens, even in the winter! I do think I like the garden better in the summertime though; it's looking a bit non-productive at the moment....
Here are a few pictures... _“A farm has its own spirituality that gives immense meaning and pleasure. It can’t be measured in acres or the quantity of animals and crops. A farm is a spiritual thing that feeds your soul, as its spirituality pours out of every outbuilding and bale of hay. Nothing is more tangible and sensuous than a farm, and yet it is also full of spirit.” -Thomas Moore
Thank you for stopping by today! This is the place where we will keep you up to date on what happens on the farm, in the garden and in the kitchen. Stay tuned....!
